What is Pulmonary Fibrosis?
Pulmonary fibrosis is a life-threatening disease affecting the lungs. Fibrosis means scarring of the lungs that develops in individuals who develop this disease. Many conditions and processes may contribute to pulmonary fibrosis including environmental agents such as asbestos, certain gases and silica. Other suspected causes may be exposure to radiation during cancer treatments to the chest, rheumatoid arthritis and even some medications. Some people contract the disease without any identifiable cause.
